Obituary of Therese E. Casey

GENEVA- Therese E. Casey passed away peacefully, with a smile and loved by many on (Tuesday, Aug. 22). A service will be held at St Stephen's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday (Aug. 24) at 1:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to CSH&C Foundation, 2 Coulter Rd, Clifton Springs, NY 14432. Therese entered the world on October 5, 1949 in Geneva, the daughter of late Thomas and Agnes Casey. After receiving her associates degree Therese worked in Boston often attending Celtics games. Many a Bostonian believe that she was Larry Bird's good luck charm. Upon returning to Geneva to care for her mother, Therese worked for Ontario County for 25 years as well as in the Civil Office, 911 and the County Treasurer's Office. Therese was very active at St. Stephen's Church where she was a Eucharistic minister supporting many funerals and making sure the candles were always lit in the church. She was an Associate of Sisters of St. Joseph, She volunteered at the Historic Society, Geneva General Hospital, and the Humane Society. When she wasn't helping others Therese enjoyed traveling. She visited Ireland, Italy, Greece and France. Her trips within the US would often include a detour to a Presidential Library. Just a few years ago she also fulfilled a long-time goal of attending the Tournament of Roses Parade. Therese loved spending time with family, friends and her cats. She and her brother Tom would celebrate birthdays together and would talk every Sunday. Her nephew Brian and his husband visited from CA to celebrate Therese's 70th birthday. On Sundays Therese would go to brunch after mass with her brunch crew. She loved her cats very much. They brought her so much joy, even when driving her crazy…just like her family and friends. Therese enjoyed going for drives and taking pictures. You had a good chance of seeing Therese driving around during Notre Dame Football games because she believed she'd jinx the teamif she watched them on television. Therese was an avid reader. She loved supporting bookstores and buying books on the day they were released. Therese had so much love in her heart and if she wasn't giving you her time, she was most likely giving you a gift. She loved buying things for others. If she saw something she thought, you'd like, she'd get it for you. There didn't have to be a reason other than because she thought you'd get a kick out of it. Therese is survived by her brother Tom M Casey of Milton, DE and sister, Molly Thorpe of Cortland, NY; fur baby, Kix of Geneva, NY; five nephews and nieces, Colleen Zehnder, Brian Casey, Tess Walsh, Noah and Luke Thorpe; and so many friends.
