In Loving Memory of Beverly Joan Sears, July 29, 1939 – December 22, 2023 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly Joan Sears, age 84, a soul who embraced life with an unwavering love for family, friends, and the joys that colored her world. She is survived by her sister Billie Thomson; her cousin Ethel Gribbins; her three children, Christopher Principio, Leigh Ann Pitifer and Mia Calabrese; their husbands, David, Mark and Mike; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Beverly was born on July 29, 1939 in Geneva, New York to Ed and Sue Sears. She grew up on the shores of Seneca Lake, and her treasured memories included a childhood home on Maxwell Avenue and the Sears Restaurant on 74 Seneca Street. From 1975 to 1996 she lived in Denver, Colorado, where she worked in nurseries and greenhouses. Though life led her on diverse journeys, her heart always found its way back to Geneva, and she lived with her mother, in Waterloo, until Sue's passing in 2009. She then made herself a wonderful home at Lyceum Heights in Geneva. Beverly was especially proud of her grandchildren Nina, Noah and Markie Pitifer, and Giana, Mitchell and Sophia Calabrese. "G-Bev," as they called her, enjoyed baking seven-layer cookies and peanut butter brownies, watching action movies with them, and learning about their lives and loves. Beverly found joy in music throughout her life, during both ordinary and extraordinary times, and her favorites were as diverse as classical, jazz, rock, and blues. She especially enjoyed the Schine's Geneva Theatre (Smith Opera House). Her affinity for travel took her around the world, with a special fondness for trips to Hawaii and Europe. Her most recent trip was a celebratory family cruise to the Caribbean in 2019. As a cat lover, Beverly dedicated herself to the well-being and companionship of her feline friends, Zen, Mauri, Jade and Morgan. She rescued and nurtured these furry companions, creating a haven for them at home, and volunteered at Beverly Animal Shelter in Waterloo. She found solace in the beauty of nature and her love for hummingbirds, trees and gardening reflected her soul, cultivating a vibrant spirit. In the face of illness, Beverly was grateful to form genuine connections with caretakers of all ages who tended to her needs. Her kindness and personality endeared her to everyone, and she found joy in conversations with those who cared for her. The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support during this time of reflection and remembrance. Beverly Joan Sears will be affectionately thought of and missed by all who loved her deeply. To honor her wishes, a celebration of Beverly's life will be held in the beauty of the spring season.
