Obituary of William A. Simon

GENEVA- William A. Simon, 90, passed away peacefully on Tues. (Jan. 28, 2014), at the Geneva Living Center North. In honoring his wishes, there will be a Trisagion Prayer of Mercy Service at 11:30 a.m. Sat. (Feb. 1), at the Our Lady of Peace Parish Center 130 Exchange St. Geneva, located off of the Center St. entrance.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church 98 Genesee St. Geneva, NY 14456.
William was born on Oct. 14, 1923 in Worcester, MA, but was a life-long resident of Geneva. He was the son of the late Michael and Julia (Baroody) Simon.
Following his graduation from De Sales High School, he worked in the family grocery business on Exchange St. for a number of years. He additionally worked at Sampson for several years before joining the Geneva Police Force in 1952. He rose from Patrolman to Special Investigator in the Detective Division until his retirement in 1985. William was a skilled investigator involved in many high profile cases during his service to Geneva.
He was well respected in the law enforcement community having dealings with other municipalities, county and, state agencies.
Following his retirement he was called to duty many times for assistance in several major cases.
William was also an active Real Estate Broker for over 60 years. He had a hand in a significant number of real estate transactions involving residential, commercial and industrial ventures.
He served as past president of the Police Benevolent Association, and was a member of the Lions Club. William was an active member of St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Geneva and in the past supported the Syrian Youth Organization and the lay lector program.
He is survived by his children, Julia (Donald) Guerrieri of Geneva, Michael Simon of Geneva, William (Patricia) Simon of Clifton Springs, Christine (Ralph) Lyman of Henrietta and Edward (Penny) Simon of Phelps; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William was predeceased by his wife, Amelia (Pasqua) Simon; parents, Michael and Julia (Baroody) Simon; brother, George Simon and daughter-in-law, Lynn Simon.
