Anthony 'Tony' J. Cannuli
GENEVA- Anthony 'Tony' J. Cannuli, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Tues. (Sept. 26, 2017). Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sun. (Oct. 1), at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home LLC, 28 Genesee St. Geneva. The Sons of Italy Lodge 2397 will meet at the funeral home for a service at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Mon. (Oct. 2), in St. Stephen's Church in Geneva. Burial will follow with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Sons of Italy Scholarship Fund, 31 Prospect Ave. Geneva, NY 14456, or St. Francis – St. Stephen's School Education Fund, 17 Elmwood Ave. Geneva, NY 14456.
Tony was born on Oct. 19, 1924, in Geneva and was a son of the late Joseph and Carmela (Ilacqua) Cannuli. He was a graduate of De Sales High School and the Freeman Business School in Geneva. Tony enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He worked at Howard's Express and then at the Seneca Army Depot. Tony had many hobbies which include: golfing at Big Oak Golf Course, where he hit a hole-in-one several times, walking at the HWS Field House, dining with family and friends, telling jokes, having coffee with his friends, and attending his grandchildren's school, theater, and sporting events. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the American Legion Post 396. His dedication was to the Sons of Italy Lodge 2397, where he held many office positions, and received numerous awards including, the "Man of the Year" and the "Garibaldi Award". Tony was known by all as a gentleman with a generous spirit, who showed respect to everyone. He possessed an unconditional love for his friends and family, which was his greatest treasure. He did not deviate.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Schading and Carmela 'Mickey' (Rusty) Simeone; grandchildren, Charles (Rachael) Schading, Joseph (Hilary Mcilroy) Schading, Kristin (Jeff Ike) Jabara and Luke (Carolina) Jabara; great-grandchildren, Tayah Payne, Owen Schading, Samuel Schading, Kayden, Alexia, and Lola Jabara; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his beloved wife, Josephine 'Josie' (Comis) Cannuli; step-mother, Josephine Cannuli; brothers, Eugene, Thomas, Charles, Samuel and Joseph Cannuli; step-sisters, Mamie Antenucci, Mary and Nancy Cartafi.
