I’ve known Rich for many years through his work as a federal employee, but also as a union representative with the American Federation of Government Employees, Local 3342. He was a staunch supporter of union and employee rights, was always prepared and willing to take on challenges independently. But, Rich was always quick with a contagious sense of humor that could get a whole room of people laughing. He will be greatly missed! Please accept my sincere condolences.

To Richard’s family, upon receiving the notice of Rich’s passing today, I want you to know that it was a challenge to lose the source of some of my richest early life memories. While we lost contact when I moved from Geneva at the end of the 9th grade, Richard and I were good friends. Why wouldn’t we be having learned to play baseball together on Universal Avenue. Richard and Jerry and I played catch and stick ball every night in the summer and most of the days. We lived across from each other. We were in Cub scouts together. We were in class from Kindergarten through the 9th grade. We ate lunch together most every day when at school. We played little league ball together. Our mothers bought us matching dungaree pants that we both didn’t like that much but wore each day that summer. Rich and Jerry were my pals. I remember Joey and then Phillip both at early ages getting into the games as their bothers diligently watch them. Thanks Richard for these sweet memories. To all of you have had him taken to soon from you, please accept my deepest condolences and wish you well as you deal with this loss. I am so grateful to have shared Universal Avenue with Richard and his family. He and they will always be a part of any reflection on what was good in my early life experiences.

I am so sorry to learn of Rich’s passing. I sincerely hope the family will recall and share all the fond memories of time and places spent with Rich. I was a colleague of Rich at SSA and while serving as a union rep for many years. He helped make life at work and beyond a most gratifying experience. I know he will be sorely missed. May you all find peace in this time of sorrow.
