Dave, you were our dear friend and will be sorely missed! When my family moved from Queens to Geneva in 1986, I brought my car over for service one cold morning. I was pleasantly surprised when Dave offered to have one of his "guys" give me a ride to the hospital, where I worked. I wasn't at all used to this! From that day on I was a regular customer and soon, a good friend. When Dave started selling cars (Nissans, Hondas, Toyotas) it was exactly what I needed---a good running Japanese car with maybe 100k miles for a good price. I finally learned that the "price" painted on the window was only a number, except for the last two digits which told you the year of the car. What a system! For more than 30 years Dave carried my 4 kids and their various used cars through all kinds of adventures, from towing with a rope to loaning us another car to use while theirs were being worked on. He was not only a friend but a lifesaver, many times over, and he carried my bill through some hard times as well. It was hard to watch when he got sick, a mysterious illness that fascinated him even as it slowed him down. In the later years my wife and I stopped by when we saw him hanging out at Dave's Service, now long past taking care of our kids' cars and in the middle of selling the station. He was having trouble walking straight, a painful limp with each step, and my wife held him up to get across the lot. All of a sudden he said "Watch this" and he held his earlobe and proceeded to walk quickly and straight as an arrow to his house next door, even walking up the steps! He explained that the only doctor who was any help was an acupuncturist who had since moved, but apparently held the cure for his ailments that no medication could resolve. The last time I saw Dave was at his house next to the station. He had given up (as he said) the "comb over" (too much trouble) and seemed happy, animated, talking a mile a minute (as usual) and in good health, even optimistic about the future. That was about a year ago. Dave, you were a very special friend and we will miss you a lot! Thanks for being a part of our lives. Tim and Pat Krakowiak

My heartfelt condolences to the families of Dave..when I think of all the times in my life growing up around my Dads stations there was always Dave nearby at his stations. From the Arco across the street until when he bought the Sunoco from my Dad. That corner was the best growing up. I always knew who would stick up for me and Dave always did. He always had a word of advice that made sense to us even though at times we didn’t want to hear it. The gas and service stations were a legacy of families and friends.Customers also became longtime friends and those days were the best memories of my life. As far back as I can remember there wasn’t a day that Dave was somewhere in our lives on that corner of North &Exchange. Dave was a huge part of our family and kept close long after my dad retired. We loved Dave as if he was our family. Dad loved you like his son. From the homemade sauce to the pan of sausage and potatoes on Fridays a true ritual, I still think of those special times and forever hold those memories so close to my heart. That corner will never be the same but I know you are up there already doing your thing with so many others that are there welcoming you home. I’ll miss you my dear lifelong friend. May you rest in forever Paradise
